Walking in relative isolation during the pandemic has become both an escape and a privileged confinement – a labyrinth.

“The York Beltline Trail is a sleepy, 9 km cycling and walking trail near my home in Toronto. My only outdoor access for walking in relative isolation during the pandemic, it has become both an escape and a privileged confinement – a labyrinth. The walls of the labyrinth expand and contract, emitting and omitting signals. Inspired by the short story “The Garden of Forking Paths” by Argentine writer and poet Jorge Luis Borges, “a garden path, a garden path” is a portrait of the Beltline Trail on the nights of May 30th and 31st, 2020.” – Cliff Caines
